PRESS RELEASE, April, 2025

Orange Wine Festival - Nature in the Glass returns to Izola on 25 April

Nature, winemakers and wine lovers in harmony in Izola

IZOLA – On Friday, 25 April, Izola (Slovenia) will once again host the traditional Orange Wine Festival – Nature in the Glass. This grand showcase of natural winemaking will pay homage to the cultural landscape and offer a glimpse of the future of wine. More than 70 winemakers from ten different countries will be on hand to present their wines, with particular attention paid this year to young winemakers.

The historic Venetian ambience of Manzioli Square will provide the perfect setting for an in-depth tasting of natural wines from more than 70 family wineries in ten countries. Exhibitors will include both established winemakers and a new generation of young winemakers who have enthusiastically embraced ethical and nature- and human-friendly agriculture. Among the wines being presented will be low-intervention whites and natural sparkling wines.

The Orange Wine Festival in Izola has in many ways been an important reference point for a new generation of winemakers and wine lovers. Ever since 2012, it has been directing them towards wines that are made in the closest possible harmony with nature. An increasing number of winemakers are committing themselves to this approach, while at the same time the number of natural wine lovers is steadily growing - people who want to know where, how and with what attitude the wine in their glass was made.

The exhibitors presenting their wines in Izola will include winemakers from Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Georgia, Greece, the Czech Republic and even China. Alongside the wines, top chefs will offer a selection of culinary miniatures. Particular attention will be paid to young winemakers, who this year will present their wines in a single exhibition space. They and their wines will be introduced to young festivalgoers by an experienced sommelier, in an event jointly organised with the Ministry of Agriculture. There will also be a guided tasting of their wines and an in-depth discussion on the importance of wine for tradition, the cultural landscape and agriculture, as well as its role in gastronomy.

Visitors are expected from all over the world, including the USA, China and the Baltic countries. Many will be coming from neighbouring Italy and Croatia and other European countries - and most of all from Slovenia. The festival begins at 2 pm in Manzioli Square, but the festive atmosphere will pervade the whole of Izola, particularly its many restaurants, since this is a top gastronomic event that attracts a diverse crowd to the town. Numerous stakeholders contribute to the successful organisation of the festival, most notably the Italian Self-Governing National Community in Izola, the Municipality of Izola and the Izola Tourism Association.

Nature in the Glass by Orange Wine Festival, Vienna 2024

Press Release, October 2024

Over 100 winemakers from 13 countries set to present their wines in Vienna

More than 350 natural wines, personally presented by winemakers from 13 countries, will be available for tasting in the event spaces of Vienna's MuseumsQuartier on 19 November at Nature in the Glass by Orange Wine Festival. This event is an exceptional opportunity for an in-depth tasting of wines from established winemakers in traditional wine-producing countries and a new generation of young winemakers who have embarked enthusiastically on the path of ethical, nature- and human-friendly agriculture.

The traditional autumn wine festival Nature in the Glass by Orange Wine Festival will showcase more than 350 white, orange, red and sparkling wines in the stunning surroundings of the MuseumsQuartier. Their common denominator is the winemakers' dedication to cultivating the healthiest, purest grapes and bringing them from vine to bottle with as little intervention as possible. Recent years have seen a reinforcing of this commitment to nature and tradition. Natural wines are today one of the leading trends in the wine world and a magnet for many wine lovers who want to know how a wine was made and what its maker's attitude is to nature and the world. In the glass, they expect not just wine but an ethical story and, behind it, growers committed to nature and with an eye on the future.

Wine stories from all over Europe will interweave in the MuseumsQuartier. Winemakers from Austria's wine regions will include such internationally renowned names as Heinrich and Ploder-Rosenberg, young collective Junge Wilde Winzer will offer an exciting glimpse of the future, and Christian Waltl will present wines from the Carinthian Alps, where winemakers are embracing the new opportunities brought by a changing climate.

From Georgia, the ancestral home of wine, a large delegation supported by the National Wine Agency will bring wines made in traditional Georgian amphorae (kvevri) from every wine region in the country – from the Black Sea in the west to the largest region, Kakheti, in the east. The more than 25 wineries set to present their wines in Vienna represent the perfect opportunity to get in touch with the tradition and history of wine and its essential DNA.

Winemakers from Moravia (Czech Republic) and Slovakia will present a wide range of styles, while growers from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia will bring the flavours of the Mediterranean to Vienna. Slovenia's Primorje wine region will also be promoting itself as a destination for food and wine tourism, with a little help from the Slovenian Tourist Board.

Also expected in Vienna are winemakers from Serbia, a rising star in the wine world, and growers from France, Spain, Germany and even Poland, while Wales's Ancre Hills Estates is certain to attract a lot of interest.

This mouth-watering afternoon in the MuseumsQuartier's Ovalhalle and Arena 21 will be complemented by appetisers and a tasting of extra virgin olive oils from the northern Adriatic regions – in both cases presented by producers who share the winemakers' sensitive attitude to nature.
